i would say AVG, but ofcourse just the anti virus is not enough, you will also need a firewall and a spyware/adware remover.

AVG is the best free one.

Kaspersky is the best ever, but it doesn't come very cheap. I *can* offer a little rebate for Kaspersky internet security (not much tho, mail me), but it still is expensive.

Yes, it is fine to buy Kaspersky online. It is not really made for newbies, there will be a bit of a learning curve, but its protection is world-class.

AVG is the favorite of noobs, the naive, the computer illiterate, and children. People of their ilk love AVG because they say it is easy to use and almost never bothers them with any pop-ups or warnings. Of course AVG Free never bothers them, it hardly ever finds any virus to warn them about!

Good protection does not come cheap and it does not come without at least a little aggrevation.

I just got an new HP Pavoline and i have been trying to find sometype of Antivirus software for the Vista software that is on the Lab top. I have Vista and I've been using Trend Micro Anti-virus 2007.

It works great. Lavasoft Ad-Aware, Spy-bot and Webroot

Spy Sweeper are also compatable (For spy and adware.

Is it a problem if Unistal Kaspersky Antivirus license expired?

My license has expired. Only effect of that seems to be the message that the current anti-virus database was released 91 days ago and that a valid antivirus database is required for the application to work efficiently. I'm still able to perform scans and protection still seems to be enabled. So what's the problem if I don't renew my license? I just don't know what an antivirus database means and it doesn't tell the consequence of not having an older database.

I'm only bothered because my C: shows only 130 MB disk space no matter how many huge files delete permanently. A thought occured in my mind that may be after the license expiry the Antivirus software is not working correctly let alone efficiently.

The most dangerous threats out there are the newest ones. To be protected against them, you must renew your license to get the virus database that contains their signature, or if they infect your computer, you will not be in the slightest protected. Yes, you can still scan, and the realtime is still on, but it's pretty much useless. If you are not prepared to pay, then uninstall Kaspersky and go to http://www.free-av.com/ and download the free Avira AntiVir Classic.

Well, here's how it goes: My comp. has this annoying virus that spreads via Windows Live Messenger by fabricating a file transfer request and, upon accepting that request, you've contracted the virus. I don't know if it's dangerous or anything, but it's VERY annoying and my avast! 4 Home Edition FREE won't pick it up. My friend suggests PC Tools AntiVirus... I've heard good things about avast! and I don't wanna be so quick to uninstall it. Also, if you know any FREE AntiVirus software that's better than the two above mentioned, please, don't hesitate to recommend it.

Which antivirus are you using? It is possible that your antivirus program can be causing a problem with your limewire connection, simply because it might be running in the background and preventing the P2P application for accessing the limewire network. Is there a firewall portion to your antivirus? that could also be the problem.

Probably the antivirus software, has a firewall implemented, i advise you to go to options and see if there is a firewall, if that's the case then add the limewire as an allowed product to use internet, in the firewall options. That's the problem i think, cause the antivirus cannot do anything, it only scans for viruses or malicious software..

I highly recommend you don't use Norton's. Norton's is not rated high in detection / removal of viruses

by those who test these programs (av-comparitives., virus.gr, etc)

and Norton's is notorious for slowing your computer to a crawl.

AVG is a good anti-virus software but it is not great. However since AVG is free you have nothing to lose. I personally think Avast is a better choice for free anti-virus software.

I think you should try both of them and see which one you like the best. Just make sure to uninstall your current anti-virus program before installing another. You should never have 2 anti-virus programs installed at the same time.

It will take up more. Memory usage does vary greatly from vendor to vendor, but id say you'd be looking at up to double as a rough rule of thumb.

What you have is a EULA for up to 3 computers. You can use it for 3 years in one computer, but after 1 year you will no longer be eligible for updates or upgrades. If you have to reformat your hard drive, you will have to reinstall the software. When you re-register it, if you use the same email address it will pick up on that. If you use a different email address, more than likely it will be treated as a new install and will allow you one year of upgrades and updates. Hope this helps.

Anti virus software?? Cannot find??

I have just upgraded my antivirus software (mcafee total plus), and when installing, it is telling me that i need to remove/uninstall 'ca etrust antivirus' otherwise i won't be able to have spam protection, anti virus or privacy. I cannot find this anywhere on my laptop (not in add/remove programs).

Does anyone know where this could be and how I can remove it?

I believe the best package for Vista is the Trend Micro Pro suite or in the very least their combo antivirus/antispyware package. The pro suite adds the firewall. I am using it right now on a brand new Vista Home Premium notebook.

You can also look over Webroot suite with Spysweeper, Sophos antivirus (VB100 winner) and firewall. Webroot is a smacking $40 US. The firewall gets a little slammed..... look around for more reviews on it.

you have to buy another Disk , u cant use the same CD 2 install the OS in other comp. theres only one way to purchase new activation codes from Microsoft they'll only gave you activation codes for 4 computers.

u can install the OS to your other pc but it wont work after 30 days.. because you cant use the same activation code for both computers. contact Microsoft I suggest you to call them.

If you have AT%26T use their software internet protection is good better then Norton or any other out there and its free ... but only works with XP at the moment~!

I think microsoft expect you to license (buy a copy) of their so called operating system for each each PC. Why not use linux, that way you will not need licenses (or anti virus)
Unless you have an OEM license agreement, you have to buy each time or the owner will run into registration problems and you don't need that kind of feedback. I highly recommend AVG free or Avast if for an individual. If they are for a business, look into the PC-cillin for good products scalable to the users needs and great support at a very reasonable price.

i would go with AVG just because it is free and does just as good of a job as the two you have - but if i had to choose between those two it would have to be mcafee because norton will slow down your computer more. If AVG is not enough (for most people that is more then enough) then you can also get zone alarm (free) which will basically just put another wall between you and the ouside world but with the added bonus of asking you everytime if it should launch a program.

I had Norton software removed from my computer as I could not receive forwards, emails, attachments, or anything to speak of that were safe and was able to receive before installing Norton. AVG is the best free software. The security programs that come free with AT%26T internet high speed are excellent also.

Symantec's Norton Anti-Virus does in fact have a high detection rate for viruses and other malware. However, the age old problem with Norton's commercial offering is that it has a bloated, cartoonish interface and thus uses a lot of resources. On the other hand, Symantec's Corporate version of their anti-virus and firewall are an entirely different story. It provides a no-nonsense interface and is much lighter on resource usage.

you might be facing very problem when our computer goes wrong it feels like some of our body part is in trouble. The best anti-viruse software is Avast go on www.avast.com. I don't like other anti-virus in front of avast like it very much and hope so you will also.
I have a lot of free antivirus/antispyware programs on my system: Avira AntiVir, AVG free edition, Spyware Terminator, ThreatFire, and a-squared. Spyware Terminator has a handy optional feature that warns you when a website is potentially dangerous or when it tries to install spyware on your system. I think the program that has caught the most worms and such for me is a-squared. Avira's also caught a few, although some people might find the nag screens whenever the program automatically updates annoying.
