How to make software run off cd rather then hard drive.?

I was wonderng...how can I setup a program to run off a cd rather then a hard drive? I have a friend who has his antivirus software installed and running from a cd rathe then his hard drive. He just pops in the cd then clicks on spysweeper then it installs in a temp location and runs off the cd. Never has to leave the software on on harddrive at all. It's very nice way of doing things? Anyone know how this is done?

Go to www.portableapps.com and find out whether the software u need is listed there. If it is listed there then download and use it in your cd or pendrive.

Some programs will let you do that, like Microsoft Office. You make the choice when you install it, and then it doesn't install the software on the HD, just the stuff you need on the HD.
