How do I get rid of Norton Software from my PC?

I have Dell Home PC.

I want to remove Norton Software - antivirus, Internet Security, etc. from my PC that has XP.

Tried the one from Norton web site to remove - failed, and takes too long - maybe Norton is installing another chain to their software - so do not use it.

Tried Add/Delete, etc. - failed. Norton shows ERROR and ends with link to their web site - waste of time again.

Tried to delete the sub-directory with Symantec or Norton - somehow the PC does not permit this to be done even when I am the administrator.

Tried to delete icon from the sys tray - will not permit.

How do I get rid of Norton from my PC?

Warning - do not install Norton if you wish to avoid this problem.
