How do you temporarily turn off Norton virus protection to install new software?

I have Windows XP and new software tells me to close all antivirus programs before installing. I didn't and now am having problems with that software.

Just install it. Or uninstall Norton. I hate it. It totally messed up 3 computers I had. It slowed them down so much. I suggest Kaspersky 7.0. It is a best seller and rated #1 on all websites. That's what I have. Uninstall Norton!! It will make a huge difference, just wait and see. :) Hope this helps! Happy Holidays!!

Norton is evil and stupid. Get avast at http://www.avast.com.
You can install without having to turn it off.
Right click the icon in the tray, there should be a choice to "disable".

But take this tech's advice and get rid of Norton. There are free anti virus programs available from the net the do a better job. Here are the links to a couple.

AVG
