Should I buy programs and antivirus for my PC?

I have a new pc with this operating system Compaq, 1,024MB; 120GB La pc asks me to install antivirus, and the software programas (word, excell, etc) to continue working. I know that the programs are kind of expensive, should I buy them? What do you think of the Windows Vista operating system? Thanks

You should atleast buy an antivirus. I just purchased a new laptop and had the Norton 360 installed. It not only helps to protect against viruses, it also helps prevent identity theft AND Fraudelent websites. With the online preditors today, an antivirus is a MUST!!!

Get AVG for anti-virus - it is essential if you intend to go on the internet with your computer.

Windows Vista is still young - I would avoid until the first service pack is issued.
windows has been and will always be a target of virus attacks so an anti-virus software is always necessary. you dont have to buy them though if you're low on the budget. you can use these free tools, coupled with some common sense and better judgment and your pc will be 99% secure.
