Why am i getting bombarded with ads for antivirus all of a sudden?

recently, i kept on getting pop ups for antivirus, most of them claiming that my computer is at risk and show statistics of bytes of data that might be infected. i know i have a virus in quarantine but it hasn't been active for a long time. i tried downloading one of the suggested software, but my old antivirus recognized it as a threat and quarantined it.

can i trust any of these ads? ( malware wiped, antivermin, etc)

and how can i get rid of the virus on my computer?
